Usher Ministry

 

Here at New Vision, we aim to usher our members and visitors to worship the Lord in a safe, comfortable and Holy Spirit filled environment. . Rather you are a visitor or  member, you will always feel at home when you enter the doors at New Vision. The Ushers humbly greet, seat, assist with special needs, assist with orderliness and collect offering at every church service. Never hesitate to ask for a tithing envelope, a love offering envelope, mission envelope, or even a building fund envelope. We will be more than pleased to offer you the necessary envelope, so you can give obediently and wholeheartedly for the advancement of God’s kingdom.

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.   You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Greeting and Seating

• Our ushers warmly greet and welcome visitors and members of the congregation at the door prior to and during the worship services. The ushers are responsible for escorting worshipers to the nearest empty seat while causing as little disturbance to the service as possible. Ushers may also assist members of the congregation in finding available seats on days when the pews are especially full.

Assisting With Special Needs

• Members of the congregation with special needs may require ushers to help them find a place to sit among the congregation. Visitors who use wheelchairs or have other physical disabilities may require an usher to show them the handicap-accessible entryways and areas of the church. Our ushers may also need to assist vision-impaired visitors with finding seating safely and may be responsible for handing out and later collecting assisted-listening devices for the visually impaired.

Assistance and Orderliness

• It’s an usher’s duty to be ready to offer general assistance and knowledge of the worship service and its proceedings to any member of the congregation who require it. Ushers know the location of the bathrooms, fire exits, sanctuary and infant rooms. Our ushers thoroughly familiarize themselvesmwith the order of the worship service to answer any brief questions that visitors may have, such as when parts of the service begin or end. Ushers help to keep order during altar calls and Communion, showing members where to stand and where to walk in the aisles. In an emergency, church members may always call upon an usher to help keep order and escort everyone out safely.

Offerings

• Ushers pass the collection plate around among the members of the congregation during the portion of the service in which monetary offerings for the church are collected. If members have filled out connection cards with their contact information requesting contact or information from the church, ushers must also collect those, either after the service or during the collection of the offering.

Trainings and Certifications

• All ushers attend an annual three hour in-house training that covers a variety of useful topics; the role of an usher, the person who ushers, organizing for action, the church service, before and after the service, recruitment, etc…
• It is mandatory that all Ushers are First Aid and CPR certified.
